This project’s mission is to raise awareness of the growing number of countries losing their democracies. Watching your country fall apart is painful, but we are not alone or powerless. Our voices matter across borders, and together we can shift the rising tide of authoritarianism.
One of the most painful and traumatic experiences for me has been watching my country, Russia, sink deeper into corruption, as the slippery tentacles of dictatorship slowly wrapped around every part of our lives.
After the elections in Venezuela in July 2024 and the presidential race in the U.S., it became clear that millions of people in many different countries are experiencing the same thing — watching their own nations slide into the dangerous hands of populists and dictators.
Some countries still uphold democratic principles, but people have lost hope or don’t often realize how much easier it is to lose a democracy than to win it back.
Our actions matter — and the least we can do is refuse to stay silent.
